A barrier is required around the pool area. The top of the barrier shall be at least 48 inches above grade measured opposite the pool side. The maximum vertical clearance between grade and the barrier is 2 inches. Openings in the barrier shall not allow the passage of a 4" sphere. Spacing between vertical members is 1.75" in width. Where the barrier is composed of horizontal and vertical members and the distance between the tops of the horizontal members is less than 45" the horizontal members shall be located pool side. Where the barrier is composed of horizontal and vertical members and the distance between the tops of the horizontal members is 45" or more, the spacing of the vertical members shall not exceed 4 ". Gates shall comply with the above provisions and be equiped to accommodate a locking device.
