Dear Si rs :
I request that you refuse the application of Spokane Neon Sign to
a zoning variance on the site of the Sportsman's Surplus Store between
Walnut and Sunderland Roads on Sprague Avenue. We who have lived
in this area for many years have a right to be free from the trespass of
flashing neon lights in our bedroom windows. The trespass of light
can be as annoying as the trespass of sound, odors and dust. To grant
the variance would be spot zoning in its most objectionable form .
I read with considerable irony the "P roposed Policy Plan" for
Spokane County and seen how the ideals stated have been applied to
the citizens of Walnut Road. We have been the victims of a steady
erosion of desirable living conditions by the policies of the Planning
Commission of Spokane County.
As I observe the turnover in the board membership and the
continuing tenure of the professional staff I have come to the conclusion
that it is the professional staff that has carried forward the policy that
has encouraged the business activity to invade our homes. I ask the
Planning Commission of Spokane County to replace all the professional
staff from the bottom secretary to the top director.
