AGRICULTURAL SUBURBAN ZONE (AS)
4.05.080 Uses Permitted--Animals--Keeping
An occupant or resident may keep or maintain primarily for his own personal
use, animals and fowl on the premises of his dwelling as follows; (except that
any building housing animals or fowl, yards, or runways shall be not less than
fifty (50) feet from any dwelling other than the dwelling of the owner):
a. Household pets
b. Poultry for use of occupant of premises. Pigeons are not permitted
unless confined at all times.
c. On a parcel of land having an area of not less than one acre, any
combination of three cows or horses with young not over one year of age.
No more than three horses, or three cows, or two horses and one cow, or
two cows and one horse shall be permitted on any residential tract
regardless of size except as provided in Section 4.05.090 of this Title.
d. On a lot or parcel of land having an area of not less than one-half acre,
two sheep or two goats with young not over six months of age. No more
than two sheep or two goats shall be permitted on any residential tract
regardless of size.
e. On a lot or parcel of land having an acre of not less than one-half acre.
not more than two rabbits with young not over eight weeks of age. No
more than two adult rabbits shall be permitted on any residential tract
regardless of size.
(Marcia Raines, Spokane County Zoning Administrator, has informed this office
that because bees are not included in the above listing of domesticated
animals they are not considered to be domesticated animals and are therefore
not a permitted use in an Agricultural Suburban Zone.)

The laws and regulations in our society are, at times, difficult to under-
stand and fully comprehend. This is true of zoning ordinances, which are
laws intended to protect and govern the many different uses of land in
Spokane County. .It is my responsibility, as the Zoning Investigator, when
the situation arises, to help resolve conflicts involving the Spokane
County Zoning Ordinance.
A visual inspection has been conducted at your property, described on the
attached sheet, by our field inspector which indicates, we believe, that
your.property is in violation of these ordinances. The attached data
sheet lists detailed information concerning this zoning violation.
We are of the opinion that since you have now been informed of the require-
ments of the Spokane County Zone Ordinance, a period of 30 days, beginning
with your receipt of this letter, should be sufficient time in which to
bring your property into compliance. Do not hesitate to act upon this im-
portant matter, since a violation of the Spokane County Zoning Ordinance
is a misdemeanor and does carry a penalty. I am sure it is important to
