BUCKEYE, AVENUE, SPOKANE VALLEY, WA Dear Brian: This post frame building has been sold for construction on Mr. Tyson's lot in Spokane Valley using the standard post frame building plans I have prepared for Ziegler Lumber Company. The building design is based on 40 PSF roof live (snow) load, 110 MPH wind speed, Exposure B, Seismic Design Category C and 2,000 PSF allowable soil bearing pressure per the 2012 IBC. The building has 10' post spacing and 4:12 roof pitch. I checked this building for the diaphragm design characteristics used in the standard post frame building design. The front endwall has a 16' overhead door and a 3' pass door. There is insufficient steel sheeting on this endwall to transfer lateral loads on the sidewall and roof to the base of the building. It will be necessary to install 7/16" O.S.B. board or 1" C -DX plywood under the steel sheeting on this endwall to strengthen the endwall diaphragm. Install the panels vertical and attach to girls with 1 1" long x 16 gauge steel staples @ 3" o. c. at panel edges & 6' o. c. at intermediate framing. This endwall only. The rear endwall has no openings. There is sufficient steel siding on this endwall to transfer lateral loads on the roof and wall to the base of the building. The left sidewall has two 4' x 2' windows. The right sidewall has two 4' x 2' windows. Sidewall openings do not affect the lateral load resistance of the building. Framing and connections — Use the 40 PSF standard post frame building plans for all framing and connection details with the above exceptions.
