Spokane Valley City Hall, Opportunity Conference Room
September 4, 2013
Committee Members Present: Committee Members Absent: Others Present:
Tom Danielson, Chair
Chris Dobbins, Vice-Chair
Michelle Rasmussen, Recorder
John Whitehead, Risk Manager
Jay Grissom
1.Convene Meeting: Tom convened the meeting at 8:01 a.m.
2.Minutes of July 11, 2013: Consensus to approve the minutes as presented.
3.Accident Prevention Plan:
Group discussed any changes to the draft policy and program; no changes noted
o
Changes noted in previous meeting were to add a statement about archiving SDS sheets in
o
the policy anddating the SDS sheets and HR time stamping upon receipt of old SDS sheets
prior to archival. Both ideas will be added to the draft.
Also, instead of a list of chemicals in a binder, a link to the list of chemicals used City-wide
o
would be more effective and placed on our website for employees to review.
A 3-ring binder will still be located at each site which holds the chemicals for that specific
o
location.
4.Safety Concerns:
Parks and Rec had an accident during day camp. A day camp attendant was running around and ran
into one of our employees while cleaning up after shaving cream activity.
Safety Committee suggestions: break children into groups to be able to observe them more closely;
or assign an employee to specifically watch the children while other employees are cleaning up.
Committee felt this was one incident that would be difficult to avoid.
5. Other Business:
John mentioned the City is developing an intranet which can be used to post our APP and other
notifications.
Employee manual with all policies will be included here for new employees. Signature page will still
apply for employee to confirm the review/reading of all policies and the APP.
John will review subscription to updates to alert employees of any changes to the plan and/or
policies.
WCIA has agreed to purchase the Safety Planning software and we will be the first municipality to
use it to adjust our plan.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:30 a.m.
