2013, 06-05 Minutes 11707 E Sprague Ave Suite 106 Spokane Valley WA 99206 509.921.1000 Fax: 509.921.1008 cityhall@spokanevalley.org SPOKANE VALLEY EMPLOYEE SAFETY COMMITTEE MINUTES Spokane Valley City Hall, Opportunity Conference Room June 5, 2013 Committee Members Present: Committee Members Absent: Others Present: Michelle Rasmussen, Chair Tom Danielson John Whitehead Jay Grissom Chris Dobbins 1.Convene Meeting: Michelle convened the meeting at 4:08 p.m. 2.Minutes of April 19, 2013: Consensus to approve the minutes as presented. 3.Election of Committee Officers: Voted Unanimously: Tom Danielson Chair; Chris Dobbins Vice Chair; Michelle Rasmussen - Recorder 4.Accident Prevention Plan: Michelle shared WISHA confirmed Global Harmonized System program and training for o employees must be completed by June 1, 2014. Washington State has received a 6-month extension from the OSHA deadline of December 1, 2013. John, as Risk Manager, shared the Safety Committee will be moving toward a new direction o of more guidance and oversight concerning safety training and accident reviews. Currently, each department oversees the training of its employees. The Safety Committee will be stepping into an active role monitoring the training of and working with the departments to regulate training and preventative measures. Also, in a reactionary sense, the SC will be the . Employees who have an accident will come before the review board to assist in identifying guidelines for the employee to follow to ensure the employee learned from the accident and to gain understanding as to where additional training may be effective. Also, the SC will share accident information with other city employees to ensure their safety and prevention of accidents when faced with similar circumstances. o 5.Safety Concerns: Sue Passmore tripped in the break room and fell to her knees. This was not a safety related accident but a trip while walking. Jay asked if there were rugs in the break room. Confirmed 2 rugs are present with no curled edges. 6. Other Business: Michelle will work with both Tom and Chris in taking over the meetings, especially concerning the upcoming changes to our Hazcom Program. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 4:29 p.m.
