The following is the title and summary of Ordinance No. 15-008 passed by the Spokane Valley City
Council on the 14th day of April, 2015:
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF SPOKANE VALLEY, SPOKANE COUNTY, WASHINGTON,
AMENDING SPOKANE VALLEY MUNICIPAL CODE CHAPTER 3.20 TO LEVY AND IMPOSE
AN ADDITIONAL 1.3% SPECIAL EXCISE TAX ON THE SALE OR CHARGE MADE FOR THE
FURNISHING OF LODGING WITHIN THE CITY OF SPOKANE VALLEY PURSUANT TO RCW
67.28.181, TO BE USED FOR CERTAIN CAPITAL PURPOSES FOR TOURISM PROMOTION,
CREATING A SPECIAL FUND FOR THE TAX, AND OTHER MATTERS RELATING THERETO.
Section 1 amends chapter 3.20 of the Spokane Municipal Code to levy and impose a special excise tax of
1.3 percent on the furnishing of lodging, creates a tourism -promotion fund, defines how the levied tax
shall be administered, provides for the establishment of the lodging tax advisory committee and sets forth
the penalty for violation of the provisions; Section 2 establishes the severability of the ordinance; Section
3 sets forth that the ordinance takes effect five days after publication of the ordinance or summary therof
as provided by law.
