Dear Mr. Shull:
We are in receipt of your letter dated January 20, 1988, in which you
have requested consideration for a waiver of our regulations for on-
site sewage disposal systems. Specifically, you have requested a wai-
ver of section 1.04.180 to allow the construction of a building addition
to the existing residence...within the setback limits restricted by law.
You have submitted a plot plan, depicting the measurements of the pro-
posed addition, and it's relative location respective to the existing on-
site sewage disposal system. The setback reduction would be two -fold.
You wish to place the easternmost edge of the foundation within 2'+of the
septic tank lid; and the foundation on the northern side within 8'- of
the first drainfield lateral.
Please be advised that we visited the site on January 27, 1988 and found
no one at home. We did view the area in question by -looking over the
rear yard board fence. It appeared to us that a slab -on -grade with a
patio roof cover has already been illegally constructed on the north side
of the building. There was evidence of recent excavation in the area of
the septic tank and building sewer.
Your request for waiver is hereby granted...with the following conditions.
1. The existing on-site drywell serving basement plumbing fixtures
must be properly abandoned prior to construction of the addition. Proper
abandonment entails the removal of the building sewer (piping) between
the structure and the drywell. Since the drywell is located 8' or more
below existing grade, we will not require it to be exposed/pumped/filled.
The interior basement plumbing fixtures must be connected to a sump where-
in a lift pump will discharge all basement wastewater to the building sew-
er discharging to the septic tank.
2. The foundation for the addition must be at least 24" from the
exterior edge of the septic tank. Since our measurements (of record) are
to the center of the primary chamber lid of the septic tank, the west
edge of same is approximately 36" west.of our measured location. This may
interfere with the proposed location of your foundation...necessitating
the relocation of the sliding rear doorway in the home.
3. The septic tank is to be exposed and foundation -forms in place
for verification inspection by this office prior to proceeding with con-

We hope this satisfactorily addresses your request. We are approving
this request because of the impending installation of a public sewer in
your area within the next few years...thus eliminating the need to main-
tain the existing on-site sewage disposal system.
If you have any questions regarding this matter, please feel free to con-
tact us at 456-6040.
Very Truly,
