MANSON, Director May 12, 1980 CERTIFIED - RETURN RECEIPT REQUESTED Mr. Kenneth L. Bush East 11923 Fairview Avenue Spokane, WA 99206 Dear Mr. Bush: The laws and regulations in our society are, at times, difficult to understand and fully comprehend. This is true of zoning ordinances, which are laws intended to protect and govern the many different uses of land in Spokane County. It is my responsibility, as the Zoning Investigator, when the situation arises, to help resolve conflicts involving the Spokane County Zoning Ordinance. This office has received reports concerning the chickens and geese being kept at your residence, located at East 11923 Fairview Avenue, Spokane, Parcl Number 09541- 0355. Under Section 4.05.080 of the Spokane County Zoning Ordinance, the keeping of "poultry for use of occupant of premises" is a permitted use in an Agricultural Suburban Zone, in which your property is located, with the provision that "any building housing animals or fowl, yards, or runways shall be not less than fifty (50) feet from any dwelling other than the dwelling of the owner." A recent visual inspection by our field inspector indicates, we believe, that your geese are more than 50 feet away from other residences, and as of the date of this visual inspection there would, appear to be no violation of the Spokane County Zoning Ordinance. Hopefully, with the information supplied in this letter, future problems which might possibly arise can be prevented. We thank you for your time. Sincerely, Mark Holman Zoning Investigator MH:db 1 •
