Dear Mr. and Mrs. Smick:
Your request for a paving waiver for the property listed above is granted. The following facts
had a bearing on the decision:
1. The house has an existing attached double garage.
2. The property owner intends to use the new structure for woodworking and does not
plan to store vehicles in or near the building.
If the use of the building should change in the future, the City may require the paving at that
time.

Dear Ms. McClung,
Re the City of Spokane Valley Permitting Office, I would like to request a waiver for the
requirement of a paved driveway for a new structure we are having built on our property.
The building will be at the rear of our residence at 4910 S. Gillis Way Court and will be
built by Steel Structures Of America Inc. under building permit Project Number
10003353. Our house at Gillis Way Ct. already has an attached double car garage and the
new building will be used as a woodworking shop. Therefore we will rarely need to
approach the shop with a vehicle and have no plans to park vehicles in or near it.
I have included two photos of our property for your convenience. One was taken from
Gillis Way Ct. looking roughly west up our driveway to the front of our residence. It
shows our driveway, house and its garage. The other photo was taken from the north side
of our property looking along the house towards the rear of our lot. The shop will be
sited at the rear of the lot between the pictured fence and shed.
