Walls within 3 feet of a property line or
within 6 feet of a dwelling must be 1 hour
rated. (5/8" type "X" gypsum sheathing
on both sides of wall). Openings are not
permitted in these walls. Garages over
3,000 sq. ft. require protection when
closer than 20 feet to the property line.
Parapets may be required.
Doors entering a garage from the
house must be 1 3/8" solid core or carry a
20 minute fire rating (self-closing hinges
required). These common walls must also
be protected on the garage side with 5/8"
type 'x' gypsum sheathing.
