IY. Mining Plan
Mining in the Mica Mine has been done in a series oP
pits. Selectian of these pit sites was determined by the
types of clay required for manufacturing of face brick. The
,
. ,
Mica Mine bouadaries together with the identification oP each
pit ie illustrated on Attachmeat A. It shou].d be pointed out
the Sheard 23 and the NoocthaPit areas are actively being mined; •
In the 3P Pit area, clay mining is finished with 75% of the
area restored to Rangeland; The Central Pit area ia being used '
,
+ for stockpile storage. T13e Sheard 14 and Ch3,cego Ranch areae
are ia reeerve etatuB. Both are being leased to sdjaceat

Present plan call,s for mining operation$ to continue ia '
. .
both the Sheard 23 Pit and the North Pit ares during 1971. Approxd.mately 40, 000 tons aP white clay will be extracted. .
,
The Sbeard 23 Pit xill be mined out or nearly - so by the end
oY thia season. Operetions would then be maved into pre- •

life is realistie. The euccess achieved in mining these tao
areas will lsrgely influence our decision to continue to
mine ea8t into the Sheard 14 and 23 areae. 4n these two
properties, overburden and drainage are the two principle
coasicl, erations. It is generally Pelt, if theae properties ,
are approached from the west, these claye can be remaved at
,
a cost xhich ia feasible far the Mica operation.
The operational requirements of the Mica Mfne axe epec-
ialized and uaique., since our mine productian is based on
manufacturfag requiremente which vary wf.th theproducts xe are
able to sell. In order to meet all of these variationsp thie
mine shou7.d be maintained as an integral fscility coansistiag

These operatfng areas may appear a bit acarred at timea.

varieties of trees end spreading top soil appears to
be the correct approaeh. In additionf several varietiee
