Argonne #C220 Spokane Valley, WA 99212 Re: 14315 & 14317 East Mission Ave. Spokane Valley Dear Gretchen, Your challenge our specialty October 6, 2007 Attached to this report is the Installation Record for the micropiles to underpin this structure. As you are aware, several obstacles were encountered during the work on this project. Since we lost drill flush consistently at 12 to 15 feet below the footing, I discussed with Paul Nelson as to whether this was the line between fill and native soils. Paul concurred that that would indicate such and so we drilled the additional footage to get the minimum of 10 foot of bond zone. The substantial increase of grout volume is typical for the fill area since we had large boulders which create voids that the grout filled. We first drilled a 3-1/2" diameter hole 10' depth, drove the 3" galvanized pipe to 10' and then drilled the 3" diameter micropile through the pipe to depth. Bond grout was pumped through the Titan bar and filled the hole from the bottom up. A 3' piece of 1-1/4" pipe was placed over the Titan bar and then the AB Chance underpinning bracket was installed to the foundation. During the lifting process, the footing separated from the stemwall and as per Ascend Structural Design, LLC repair plan, we placed grout to fill the voids. 12 bags of grout slurry was required to do this. At the NW corner of west unit, we had 3-3/8" of settlement. We lifted structure to level across the second level. In the east unit we had 2-1/4" of settlement and lifted unit to level. During the lifting process, the south building line actually lowered as we lifted the north line. The effort to pull the north wall back to plumb was not completely successful. The west unit is 1-3/16" out of plumb and the east is 1/4" out of plumb. As you are well aware of, water must be kept away from the foundation to avoid future movement.
