(2) The joist size; ledger size; fasteners; decking material; span of support beams; distance between support beam lines; cantilevers; height of deck from ground;pressure treated posts or separation from ground; positive connection of post to beam and concrete piers; stair tread width and riser height; stairway width; handrail height, size and location if four or more risers; guardrail construction height and opening size if deck is over 30 inches above finished grade; etc. should be shown on the plan. (3) Clarification is required as to point loads from cantilevered decks and stairs and may require engineering if no direct support is provided. (4) Clarification is required on the location and placement of the ledger if provided and may require engineering if attached to cantilevered portions of the existing residence without direct support. A copy of the site plan, construction submittal, and a generic deck detail are attached to expedite the permit process.
