Re: Existing Septic System at E. 7708 Riverway
Dear Mr. Adrian:
You contacted me several days ago requesting a time to meet and discuss your
objection to signing the sewer OLID waiver agreement specified under Section
1.04.110 (paragraph 7) of the District's sewage regulations.
Having obtained a copy of our records showing the size and location of your
existing sewage system at E. 7708 Riverway, you understood you would need to
enlarge the present septic system as part of your plans for rebuilding your
residence. The existing sewage system, consisting of a 750-gallon septic tank
and 151 lineal feet of drainfield, was installed as a replacement system for
the existing one-bedroom home.
As I understand, you plan to demolish the present older residence and rebuild
a three-bedroom home. The existing 150 feet of drainfield represents the
minimum required for up to a three-bedroom home if the soils beneath the
drainfield are medium sands. However, in a greater number of instances we
find the soils to be a fine sand or loamy sand beneath the drainfield,
reducing the amount of sewage that can be applied to a given square footage of
soil .
A typical drainfield trench in 1978 was two feet wide. This translates into
your existing 150 feet of drainfield having capacity for a two-bedroom
residence; however, by current policy we allow one additional bedroom to be
added to an existing system which again qualifies you for up to a
three-bedroom home.

Letter to Mr. Adrian
December 19, 1990
We will allow you to use your existing septic system even though it will need
to be modified to fit your proposed home reconstruction plans (see enclosed) .
Therefore, your proposal is consistent with our current regulations and
policies. The existing sewage system is adequate for a three-bedroom
residence; thus, the ULID waiver agreement will not be a requirement for your
proposal .
if you have any further questions, please contact me at 456.6040.
Sincerely,
