Dear Mr. Scholtens:
Pursuant to code section R104.11 I would like to request that you consider an alternative
design for the construction of the window wells that I will be installing around my egress
windows. Instead of having a vertical wall that would need to have a ladder I would like
to build a wall that is terraced in two levels (please see the attached drawing). The
intermediate terrace will be at least 24 inches wide and neither terrace will have a vertical
height greater than 30 inches. My rational for the design is that if the code allows an
internal window sill height of 44 inches then my terrace height of 24 to 30 inches will be
at least as easy to negotiate in the case of an emergency exit.
Your consideration in this matter is greatly appreciated.

Dear Mr. Scholtens
Last summer I was issued a permit to install an in ground swimming pool and also a
permit to install two egress windows and a cover for the swimming pool equipment. As
often happens, I bit off a little more than I thought and I was unable to complete the
projects by the end of the summer. The pool is nearly finished; I just need to finish a
little wiring and finish installing the fence(the pool has a safety cover on it so that no one
can fall in)before I can have a final inspection. The egress windows are complete and I
have decided not to build a cover for the equipment as I found out that it can all be left
exposed to the elements and uncovered so the egress windows are ready for a final
inspection. Inadvertently, I have exceeded the 6 month time line to have inspections
performed and keep the permits open. I would like to request that I be granted an
extension on the permits at this time. I will call for an inspection on the egress windows
next week and I hope to have the pool completed by the end of June so that we can use it
this summer. Your consideration in this matter is greatly appreciated.
