Dear Mr. Erickson:
At your request, I have examined the north wall of the fire
damaged garage at S. 1204 University in the Spokane Valley.
The wall is constructed of concrete masonry units with a stucco
plaster on the exterior which has been removed.. There is no
spelling of masonry units or mortar.bThe e firmore tar rgtypically is a

It is my opinion that the masonry wall has not been structurally
damaged by the fire.

Re: Structural Inspection Report

To Whom It May Concern:
Our firm was requested to investigate and make recommendations
regarding the fire damaged garage structure at the above referenced
address. The contractor was on site at the time of the inspection
and outlined the work he plans to undertake.
Observations:
1. The fire damaged structure is of concrete masonry wall
construction with a wood framed roof which projects above the
adjacent roof elevation.
2 . Damage was confined to the garage, primarily the north ceiling
and roof areas.
3 . The contractor plans to remove the entire roof structure and
the top 4 courses of masonry.
4 . The concrete block wall is constructed of standard weight
concrete units with multiple cells. The wall is unreinforced
and ungrouted.
5. The mortar joints are untooled and struck flush.
6 . The mortar is intact and bonding. Obviously, the mortar is of
poor quality but continues to serve its purpose.
commentary:
1. The unreinforced concrete masonry building has remained in
place for many years with no signs of structural distress or
movement.
2 . Inasmuch as the unreinforced masonry lintels are being
removed, I see no other areas which warrant concern.

3 . Basically, a system exists which does not comply with current
codes or practices. Our intentions are to replace the roof
and to improve those areas, and the overall system, as
necessary to provide for an ongoing use by the owner.
