Field densities were deterinined at randpm Pocations avail$ble fbr testing durin$ our site visits according ta
Nuclear Methods {ASTM D-2922}. We believe the resvIts are representative of the lift expased in the
immediate area of aur test during aur site visit. Results should nat 1e cansidered representative of
earnpaction of ather area.s, lifts, ar fi11s, if any.
Cotnpaction results are presenteki on ttce attached Resuhs of CampactiQn Tests form. Char daily activities

SUBJECT: Results of Field and Laboratory Testing
Report #7
May 20 through 21, 2002
At yow request, we are providing field and laboratory testing services for the subject project. Ow services
were limited to the testing of specific construction components, selected at your discretion.
For this period our involvement has been limited to laboratory testing of 1 sample collected by us on May
20, 2002 and compaction testing of asphalt concrete pavement. Results were verbally reported in the field
to the contractor. The following laboratory tests were conducted in general accordance with the methods
listed:
1. Theoretical Maximum "Rice" Density AASHTO T-209
2. Oil Content, Ignition AASHTO T-308
3. Mechanical Analysis of Extracted Aggregate AASHTO T-30
Field densities were determined at random locations available for testing during our site visits according to
Nuclear Methods (ASTM D-2950). We believe the results are representative of the lift exposed in the
immediate area of our test during our site visit. Results should not be considered representative of
compaction of other azeas, lifts, or fills, if any.
Laboratory results are presented on the attached Laboratory Summary. Compaction results aze presented on
the attached Results of Compaction Tests form. Our daily activities are summarized in the following
paragraphs:
Monday, May 20, 2002 Technician: Ray Pearson

May 20 through Jurte 5, 2042
At your request, we have provided field and 9abvratary testing serv'sces during construction of the subject
project. For this pesicd, our inVOluement was limited co sampling, labarafory testing, and fieId density
testing of asphalt cancrete pavement. This report specifically atldresses the results of density tests.
[]ur engineering technician, Ray Peat'snn, was 4n-site during gaving (May 20, 2002) and also the day
following paving (IvTay 21, 2002) canducting field density testing on the completed mat. C)n #hose two days,

by S(][3fCari2 COL1Fll]~ (92°Ira).
During paviarg a representative of A11 Wesc Tesiing was aIso on-site condraciing nuclear densiry tests. We
understand that All West had been hired byr the pawirfg contractas to ctsnduct quality cetintroi testing I)uring
= that day, our enginaer7ng technician and A!1 West's teehnician eonducted severai tests ai the same
Iasations, as is comman to attempc to determine minDr differences betdveen testing deV:ces. SeVerai of the
comparafii►+e tests taken yielded failing results on both machmes which appearecl ta be reading sirnilariy, A
hand written capy ofAll Wesk's cvtnpaction tesfi report was provided to us byyou via far.simile an May 30,
. 2002. The repvrt appesrs ta indicate that 25 of 26 tests eonducted by AlE West Testing met or exceeded the
specified minimum (42%).
Mr. Pearsvn discussed our test resuits with tHe paving contractors 'Faremanlsuperintendent deiring paving
and on the day following pauing when the Fureman r+isited the site. LJuring these cvnVersatipns, the
- foreman indicated that he dvas aware of the failing results and that their test results were sima[ar.
In an ef'fart to Verify the accuracy o#'our fiests, we retumed ta the siie on May 31, 20[}2. At this time, the
prvject paVement was separated into 3 individual test lots based on tonnage. F'rve randamly located tests
were cc+nducted irr each lai. Each test consisted of 2 measurements, one at the original gauge positi6n and
anather vriented 90° from ihe originaE gauge positiQn Tests were focated on a random, mathematical basis
with care taken to aVOid locations within 1' of paaingjainis These tests iasdicated resul[s simi4ar to original

We returned to the site again on June 5, 2042 to calCect cores for determinrng acarrection Facicrr for nuclear
densiry resulks. Seuerai cores were collected ad Iocations where nuclear density tests were conducteci. The
buik speciFie gravitylbulk density of the cares was determined in our labaratary and compared to the results
of nuclear density tests. The results of that comparisvn yielded a correction factor to be applied tv nuclear
, density tes3s of 1.007. Corrected nuclear density tests were obtained by multiplying original dens'sties by the
ccarrectian fac:tor resulting in a derasity increased hy 0.7°/0, ta,gain, many individual results and tlhe results of
all 3 lots indicate comgaction below the specitied minimum (92°!a)-
Results of all of the density tests conducted m the fieid are presented an the attached R'esudts of Cramprctfan
_ Tesiing forms. Al! of the results presented have been increased using the correciion factor described abor+e.
It has been a pleaswe tp be of serviee to you on this preject. ShauId yau have any guestirjns, regarding this
