Re: Change Order 1
Seth Woodard Sidewalk Project, CIP 0234
1. Describe the Change This Change Order provides payment for two items:
a. Fifty linear feet of modified Type A Curb behind sidewalk on Mission near the southeast
corner of Bowman Rd and Mission Avenue that will provide a transition between the
difference in elevation between sidewalk and the existing curbing and fence.
b. A 4 inch thick concrete cap between back of sidewalk and existing concrete curb to
stabilize the variable slopes and provide a maintenance-free finish between the new
sidewalk and private property at the southeast corner of Lilly and Bowman Rd and the
southeast and southwest corners of Bowman Rd and Mission Rd.
2. Evolution of the Change
The project design places the back of sidewalk two feet from the property line to allow
for existing utility poles and phone pedestals. The curb grade was set to provide a
paved shoulder grade of approximately 3% to match the existing paved road cross
slopes. This creates a difference in grade between the existing curbs on the property line
and the back of sidewalk. The area was shown in the bid documents to be covered with
4 inch thick sidewalk. However the cap will require more handwork than The two inch
thick concrete cap will stabilize the slope in some of the steeper areas and provide a
maintenance free ground cover.
3. Payment
The bid price for the Type A curb is $16.00 per linear foot. The Modified Type A curb will
be more difficult to place since it is behind existing curb and gutter and must be hand
formed so the unit price has been increased to $32.00 per linear foot.
The Bid price for 4 inch thick sidewalk is $37.00 per square yard (SY). The four inch
thick concrete cap will require more handwork sot the unit cost has been increase to
$50.00/SY cost.
4. Time
One day additional time is granted. The project will be completed before school starts.
5. Prior Approval
The Public Works Director approved this Change Order before work began.
