Change Order Memo
Date: October 20, 2016
By: Craig Aldworth
Re: Change Order 3
Pines Rd (SR27) & Mirabeau Parkway Project, CIP 0238
1. Describe the Change This Change Order pays for removal and replacement of a cracked
pedestrian ramp at the northwest corner of Pines Rd and Mirabeau Parkway and for sawcutting in
joints at the other ramps to prevent future uncontrolled cracking.
2. Evolution of the Change
The pedestrian ramp at the northwest corner of Pines Rd and Mirabeau Parkway intersection has
cracked along the approximate edge of the signal pole foundation below.
The plans call for installing sidewalk pedestrian ramps over the signal pole foundations per
WSDOT Standard Plan J-26.15-01 Case E. The resulting sidewalk is subject to differential
settlement and cracking because one portion overlays the non -yielding signal pole foundation and
the other portions are built on compacted soil and crushed surfacing. The WSDOT plan does not
explicitly call out that a joint be constructed in the sidewalk above the edge of the signal pole
foundations. The project plans did not explicitly show a joint at the edge of signal pole
foundations.
3. Payment
The rainy fall has limited the days that the Contractor's crews have been able to work and so they
are scheduled into mid-November so the Change Order pays for an additional mobilization.
Payment for the sidewalk removal and curb ramp removal will be made under contract unit bid
prices. Payment for saw cutting cement concrete uses the existing unit bid price for saw cutting
asphalt concrete pavement.
Payment for temporary traffic control is based on the Project Temporary Traffic Control lump sum
bid price divided by the 15 day working day contract and multiplied by the Change Order time
extension of 2 days
The total cost including sales tax is $6,130.68.
4. Time An additional 2 days of time is granted to allow for remobilization, removing and
reinstalling the pedestrian ramp, and sawcutting at other pedestrian ramp locations.
5. Prior Approval
The Change Order was approved by the acting Public Works Director before work began.
