This letter acknowledges your recent notice to me of a hearing
to be conducted on September 7. 1976. regarding the installation
of a six-foot high chain-steel fence at the residence of one
James F. Allard, E. 8610 Br6&dway, Spokane--his property 'being
located directl,y across the -'street, from a residence Wbieh I o-vm
located at 8611 E. Braaditay, Spokane. I shall be unable to attend
the hearing and instead submit rry aievis on this matter in this
f orm.
I understand that this•fence was installed last spring in vio-
lation,of'the provisions of the Spokane County zoning ordinance
(Chapter 4.17, Section 4.17,A40) trhich limits the height of a
fence in this pDrtion of'Spokane County to no more than 36 inches
br'jthin 25 feet of the front of the property.
I am unavrare=-from forty-six yeara of residence in Spokane -and the ~
Spokane Valley--of the lawful placement of a fence of such height
along the front of aresidence. I can on.]y speculate that this
fence might have been constructed at that height--although illegally--
to restrict access to whe-t appears to be an automotive repair
bus iness that is be ing c onducted in a large a hed behind the res-i-
dence at 8610 E. Broadvia3r. I beliove such an activa.tyy--and cer-
tainly aTence of such height--are inappropriate-.to, the neighbor-
hood. Furthermore, I request tkat the -zoning ordi.nance in the
matter of the height of the fence be enforced.
