SPECIAL INSPECTION WORK FOR F. O. BERG BUILDING, E. 16124 EUCLID
AVE., SPOKANE, WASHINGTON.
PROJECT NO. 98-006563
This letter summarizes Special Inspections, field tests and observations we performed for
the new F. O. Berg Building project, in accordance with Sections 1701.5(5) {structural
welding}, 1701.5(6) {high strength bolting}, 1701.5(7) {structural masonry}, 1701.5(13)
{special grading, excavation and filling}, and 1701.6 {general provisions} of the 1997
Uniform Building Code.
We made approximately 27 visits to the site during the period 11/10/98 to 2/9/99, to
monitor items requiring Special Inspection. Problem areas noted during site visits were
identified and reported to your field superintendent, Mr. Pat Henkle. Reinspection and
retesting were conducted as necessary to verify compliance with codes and specifications.
Daily field memorandums detailing our tests and observations were submitted after each
site visit.
In summary, our efforts consisted of the following:
• Observation of earthwork and footing subgrade conditions.
• Inspection of Reinforcing Steel.
• Inspection of Reinforced Masonry Construction and testing of prism
specimens.
• Visual Inspection of Field Welding.
Allen 6.Gifford,P.E.
President
•
Vandervert Construction E-1974-01
February 22, 1999 Page 2
• High Strength Bolting Inspection.
We did not observe structural concrete placement, as the design strength did not require
inspection.
All inspections were performed by ICBO (International Conference of Building Officials)
and WABO (Washington Association of Building Officials) Certified Special Inspectors.
Based on our observations and test results, it is our judgement that the work which we
inspected was performed, to the best of our knowledge, in a generally acceptable manner
and in general compliance with the approved plans and project specifications, and
applicable workmanship provisions of the Uniform Building Code.
This letter finalizes our involvement with the project. We appreciate the opportunity to be
of service to you. If you have any questions about this letter or our previously submitted
memos, please let us know.
Sincerely,
Timothy D. Barber, ICBO, WABO
Field Inspection Supervisor
