Steve Piscitello gave a brief overview of the scope of the project along.with the identification of the areas that are to receive first priority in the construction schedule. 2. Addendum No. 1 will be issued on Friday, May 24, and should be received by all planholders by early next week. 3. Jim Picken, the mechanical engineer for Riley Engineering, reviewed certain mechanical items that will be incorporated into the Addendum: •'*' a. The halon fire protection system will be deleted and replaced with a wet sprinkler system with quick response sprinkler heads. . b. The two fuel tanks being removed will have the fuel oil drained, stored off site and refilled by Staley Oil (922-2700) for a fee. The owner will pay for this service. • llrnreE. Tom Fox asked about a credit for the fuel oil not refilled in the new tanks, as the new tanks are smaller than the existing ones. Picken will contact Staley Oil. • d. Picken indicated the Specifications address what is to be done if the soil surrounding the fuel tanks is contaminated. The question was asked regarding liability if the fuel oil company spills oil while draining the tank. This should be the responsibility of the fuel oil company. • • e. Fox indicated the hospital will provide the temporary fuel to operate the emergency generators • during the transition period. f. Fox also dictated that a "paper trail" should follow the removal and disposal of the fuel tanks for .-- liability reasons. The fuel tanks should be destroyed and not resold. 4. Piscitello asked Fox about any requirements for the removal of asbestos. Fox indicated that all asbestos has been removed under prior contracts. 5. The owner has paid a plan review fee of $1,924.33 to the County. The contractor must reimburse this amount to the owner, as called for in the Specifications. 6. Fox will identify an area on the hospital site that can be used as a staging area by the contractor. In addition, a small amount of parking spaces will be provided. 7. A question was asked about the complexity of installation of the equipment that has been identified as "Owner Furnished - Contractor Installed". Fox will identify any equipment that is unusual or out of the ordinary. 8. Under Specification Section 13091, X-Ray Protection, the paragraph on "Single Source Responsibility" was questioned. The consensus was that this requirement will be more costly to the owner. This will be addressed in the Addendum. • 9. A second site visit for interested parties will occur on Friday, May 31, at 10:00 a:m. Meet in the main lobby. • 10. .Fox indicated he will provide a location within the hospital for the storage of items to be salvaged for the owner. 11.,; There;was a lengthy discussion on the interruption of existing HVAC, medical gases, power, sprinkler lines, and other services during the tie-in of the new work. T Fox confirmed what is already called for in the Specifications with regards to coordinating shut-down of services with his department. Fox stressed that any shut-down of services for an extended period of time could not be tolerated. - 12. Fox indicated that an air balancing of the entire hospital will occur after this project is complete but that each remodeled area should be balanced now under this contract. ; , . I i Pre-Bid Conference Valley Hospital and Medical Center, 90057 - lAb May 21, 1991 . Page 3 13. A question was asked about the calendar days for completion of work on the proposal form and about liquidated damages. There are no liquidated damages and the contractor needs to fill in the blank number of days to complete the project. While the owner is anxious to have the project completed as quickly as possible, no completion date has been established. . This concluded the Pre-Bid Conference meeting. Upon adjournment, the attendees toured the facility to view the areas being affected by the remodel. • Submitted by Steven Piscitello, AIA8p . cc: Planholders • Ben Nielsen, Northwest Architectural Company • kp/PBC52191
