A man by the name of F. P. Hahn cAlted this afternoon. It seems ae
R man by the name of LUNU is digging ditches and getting ready to put
in a mink farm on the 11204 Block on Last Boone. By refering to the
zone regulatims, small animals in an Agricultural zone vroulci be allowed
only by speciRl permit. He does not have a permit, and tir. Hahn says
that the neighbors do not want him to put it in. They don't want to
conlplain to him, but figure that it would be costing him a lot of money
by getting ready for his mink farm if it would not be granted by speciel
permit. He, (Mr. Hahn) said he was partly responsible for this zone
change, (egriculture 1) and Mr. Lund was in favor of it. Now, he ia getting
ready to put in this mink farm . He would like to talk it over with
you this afternoon. He will be in his office,,the number is R. 7141.
He would like to talk to you before you go out there.

Dear Capt. Hawley: he: Lund application for Mink farm
Since I will not be in the cit,p January 29th when, I understand, there
will be a hearing on the application of Mr. Lund of Boone xvenue,
Opportunity, I want to go on record as a property owner in tr e area
effected.
ti'ie live on Boone kveriue, one-half block west of Mr. Lund's place. ltie
have eight acres of land and have made substantia.l improvem, ents there-
on. Ours is a residential place and perhaps represents trie largest
individual investment on the street. We built the home in 1941.
We understand that the Lund' s desire to devPlop a mink enterprise on
their five acres. While I am not posing as an authority on mink
raising, I have been exposed to the nork in financing mi.nk raisers.
I have had the privilege of inspecting and appraising mi.nk farms over
the past twenty years so have had occasion to note the unsanitar,v con-
ditions that are d1wa3Ts present.
I feel ttilat our citizens should not be denied the privile~e of follo~r-
ing their chosen professions, but care should be exercised in choos-
ing a location so that other citizens should not be sub jected to the
offensiveness of the business.
I,ast year we propertv owners moved to zone our area. In doine► so we
agreed to considerable latitude for agricultural enterprises. We had
in mind establishing a communit,y that would afford people rural atamos-
phere, with room, sightliness and sanitation.
To let down th e b ars at thi s time would def eat the purpo se of zonir:g.
Therefore, I want to enter a protest against the establishing of a
mink tann in our midst. My objections are based upon:
l. Tre unsanitary cond.itions tr.at are inevitable in the
raising of mink.
2. The odor that is ever present.

,1P pioneered in building a fine home on our propertv. Since we
built, every home in the block has been rernodeled or painted. Two
nex homes are under construction. Two properties were purchased
with the intention of building good homes. These purchases were
ma.de primarily because there was a good outlook toward the develop-
ment of a rural residential area. It w+ould be unfair now to
,ieopardize the investment of those who purchased propert~r prior to
the Lund' s taking up residence.
The Lunds are fine and respected people. I am not opposin,c; them -
I am opposing the rnink pro, ject.
