Ordinance Summary 17-001 City of Spokane Valley 11707 E. Sprague Spokane Valley,WA 99206 (509)921-1000 NOTICE OF ORDINANCE PASSED BY SPOKANE VALLEY CITY COUNCIL The following is the title and summary of Ordinance No. 17-001 passed by the Spokane Valley City Council on the 10'h day of January, 2017: AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF SPOKANE VALLEY, SPOKANE COUNTY, WASHINGTON, AMENDING CHAPTER 7.20 OF THE SPOKANE VALLEY MUNICIPAL CODE RELATING TO FALSE ALARMS,AND OTHER MATTERS RELATING THERETO. Section 1 amends Spokane Valley Municipal Code (SVMC) 7.20 to include minor clarifying verbiage; strikes the definition of alarm appeals officer,strikes the definition of alarm system, adds the definition of false alarm response cost recovery fee, acids the definition of security alarm system, and makes other amendments for further clarification. Section 1 also amends 7.20.030 to designate the responsibility for administration and funding to the Chief of Police and his designees. The requirement of registering alarm sites has been removed, as well as registration terms and fees. The duties of alarm installation companies and/or monitoring companies have also been amended.Verbiage addressing false alarm awareness classes has been eliminated, and the appeal process has been amended. Exceptions have been included concerning government facilities, as well as special rules applicable to public schools. The ordinance states that fees for false alarm response cost recovery shall be determined by separate resolution. Section 2 addresses severability, and Section 3 states that the ordinance shall be in full force and effect five days after the date of publication of this Ordinance or a summary thereof, in the official newspaper of the City.
