Re: Larry Williams Residence at E. 13010 23rd Avenue
Dear Sir:
The Spokane County Building Codes has reviewed your plans for a re-roof
of an existing home. In reviewing your request for application of extruded
concrete roof tiles which are interlocking elements, approximately 13 inches
by 162 inches in overall size. The tile weigh approximately 8.4 to 10 pounds
per square foot depending on head lap spacing. Your proposal is to roof over
an existing roof of cedar shingles, weighing approximately 3 pounds per square
foot. These two materials bring dead load to over 13 pounds per square foot
for roof material alone.
The drawing that was presented to us which shows a typical roof section is
inadequate to determine if the total roof is acceptable. In my opinion, there
are several areas in the roof structure that are questionable based on your
explanation. Those areas are over the garage, the eave overhangs of up to 57
inches unsupported and the unsupported gable fly rafters.
The drawing itself as it is shown, would not support the loads imposed by
this type of roof without some modifications.
If this type of roof is desired a structural drawing would be required showing
all areas of the roof, including overhang projections. This drawing should bear
the seal of a licensed engineer or architect, and sufficient calculation or data
to substantiate his complete review of the project.
Sincerely,
Kenneth g. J'tfrey
