Regarding the Asgard Microwave company description blurb that I emailed to you, I should have added a little
more info. regarding the power combiner contract. Perhaps it may help in the Planning Department's
deliberation process.
Pictured in the writeup was an 2.574 GHz 8-input power combiner prototype delivered to Xicom Technology
(Santa Clara, CA), and is a key component in a new communications system they are delivering to General
Dynamics for offshore oil platforms. This higher data rate, broader bandwidth communications system
improves the rig-to-shore communications as well as the quality of life for oilworkers stationed weeks at a time
on these platforms. If you wish, please contact Dr. Steve Ludvik at Xicom Technology (408)213-3065 if you
need more information on Asgard Microwave's contribution to this effort.
So, in a small way, part of my work here in Spokane is helping to reduce our country's dependence on foreign
oil—helping to improve communications and oil worker's quality of life on these offshore oil platforms.

Asgard Microwave
Company Description:
Asgard Microwave was established as a sole proprietorship in 1990 in Palo Alto,
CA for the purpose of engineering design and development of specialized microwave
components for the communications and radar industries. Deliverables are typically a
final design report along with a prototype that has been designed, fabricated,tested and
performance-optimized as part of the consulting contract. Born and raised in Spokane,
Asgard Microwave was moved to Spokane in 1998 so as to be closer to family.
Most Recent contracts:
11/29/2007—to present: Consulting for Xicom Technology (Santa Clara, CA) in the
area of power combining microwave solid state modules.
Invented and developed an 8-input 2.574 GHz power
combiner. Final prototype delivered 4/22/2008. Currently
working on advanced modeling for the purpose of
increasing bandwidth capability for this new combiner
geometry. Photo below shows a prototype under test:

Asgard Microwave
Biography:
David B. Aster, founder and business owner of Asgard Microwave,was born in 1955 in
Spokane, WA. He earned a B.S. in Applied&Engineering Physics (1977) and a Master
of Engineering degree in Electrical Engineering(Microwaves) at Cornell University
(1980). He worked as a traveling wave tube engineer and Analytical Services manager at
Varian Associates from 1980 to 1990. From 1990 Mr.Aster established Asgard
Microwave to perform consulting services related to design software development as well
as the design and development of microwave components for the communications and
radar industries. Prototyping capability has shown to greatly augment consulting—a
working prototype establishes the best credibility for new design approaches attempting
to advance the `state of the art' in microwave component design.
