Previous Proposed Square Footage 22,100 Sq. ft. 4,154 Sq. ft. • Actually approximately 1357 SF of pavement surface are removed from draining to swale 5 by the larger building size. However, 1565 SF of additional impervious area are added by the driveway modifications. • The total impervious surface area is increased by 208 SF. The total becomes 44,147 SF (43939-1357+1565). • The new swale design of 3690 SF at 6" depth provides adequate storage with the existing Type "B" drywell. See attached bowstring calculation spreadsheet. • The existing Safeway building and the propose PetsMart building both will drain to a bank of 6 Type "B" drywells. The total roof area will be 82,299 Sq. ft. (55,945 + 26,354). Pqc~.j~-CTa ' PURPOSE The purpose of this report is to submit, for approval, the assumptions calculations, and design of the roof and site drainage and drywells for the proposed Safeway supermarket The information in this report will provide calculations for the following: • Drywell Sizing - Drywells are sized as follows: Type "A" drywells will be assumed to handle 5,000 SF of surface runoff. Type -"B" drywells will be assumed to handle 15,000 SF of surface runoff. Where this relationship is exceeded the Bowstring method of runoff calculation will be used to justify the drywell selection. • Drainage Structures - Pipes, ditches, and other drainage conveyance structure sizes and beometry will be justified with calculations. Runoff is calculated by use of the Rational Method. Other information provided with this report will provide the following: • Grades - Contours and spot elevations are provided on attached drawings. One percent niinimum slopes are used to convey runoff across paved surfaces where concrete curb and gutter are not utilized. • Pavement - Attached drawings indicate where all travel surfaces are to be paved unless a paving waiver has been granted. • Swale Cross-Sections - Typical cross sections of swales are detailed on attached plans. Details indicate sodded side slopes not steeper than 2:1 for up to a maximum of 12 inches depth. Swales which are greater than 12" in depth will have 3:1 side slopes. The tops of swales are a minimum of 2" above the rim elevation of drywells to provide freeboard for stormwater. • Elevations - Both bottom of swale elevations and drywell rim elevations are indicated on attached drawings. f 4 Calculations have been rnade in accardance with the Spokane County "Guidelines for Starmwater Management". Area 3was removed after the 6-7-94 Revisions. Area 1sheet drains t~ the west and .riox~~ ~ 1760 SF gras~~ swa1e. Area 2 sheet drains to the north to a 3810 SF grassy swa1e west of the center appraac,h axd a 9505 SF grassy swale on th.e east. Are~ 3 was elixiinated and is part af Area 5. Area 4 and 5 drain to the southern corners af the site to a 6275 SF and 3720 SF swale respectively. The area provided for infiltration in each of these swales is designed to accommodate 1/2 inch of runoff draining from the impervious surfaces, in a swale of a six inch depth. Runoff from all of the areas enter the swales through curb cuts. Curb cuts are designed to handle all peak flows from the various areas draining through them into the swales. Calculations are shown in the appendix verifying that the largest area which drains through a curb cut will drain through the 5 foot wide at the top and 3 foot wide at the base curb cut. Area 2 West has the largest area draining through a single curb cut. A portion o€ Area 5 drains through a 2 foot wide channel as shown in the detail. Approximately .33 acres drains through this channel.
