Members of the City Council;
I am a golf enthusiast, enjoy the outdoors and am concerned for the future of Painted Hills Golf Course. As a
former golf superintendent for the City of Liberty Lake, I truly believe that it would be in the community's and
the City of the Spokane Valley's best interest to have a serious discussion on the purchase and future plan of
Painted Hills Golf Course. I have enclosed numerous topics of discussion supporting the purchase of the golf
course and what effects the local business has in the community. I also believe that it would bring an
enormous positive influence to the community and add to your parks department and recreational
opportunities.
I would love to be a part of your future and the future of Painted Hills Golf Course. I have enclosed my resume
and would like to have the opportunity to be a part of the discussion. I believe that there are many
opportunities for a positive change that would enhance the community and the local economy.
Thank you very much;

Budget Necessities / Discussion
Equipment Roster / Necessities
$$$
The essentials of equipment in order to properly manicure turf is to have the proper equipment for
proper mowing. Golf course maintenance is extremely aesthetic; proper mowing patterns and grooming
turf at proper heights is critical.
• Reel cutting units are essential in maintaining heights of cut.
• Wide area rotary mowers are essential in maintaining longer heights of cut such as the 'rough'.
• Greens unit $ 18,000 - $20,000
• Tee unit $ 18,000 - $ 20,000
• Rough unit $ 25,000 - $ 28,000
• Fairway unit $ 28,000 - $ 34,000
• Approach unit $ 16,000 - $ 18,000
• Utility vehicle $ 16,000 - $ 18,000
• Utility vehicle $ 5,000 - $ 7,500
• Leveling Table $ 500
Irrigation / Sprinkler
$$$ 3,500
The correct application of sprinkler heads is crucial in maintaining proper watering. Size of the sprinkler
heads, nozzles, and water pressure are vital in maintaining a fertility program.
• Green's
• Tee's
• Rough
(potential — number 1)
(potential — number 2)
(potential — number 3)
Bunker Maintenance / Renovation
$$$ 18,000
Appearance and maintenance! Golfers are critical. You must have dean, fluffy sand. Bunkers need to be
edged and renovated. Options are; 1. Clean and add what is already there, 2. Renovate current bunkers
(take out old sand) and add sufficient amount of new sand, 6 to 8 inches is optimal.
• Sand
Fertility Program
$$$ 18,000
A proper, well maintained fertility program is extremely critical. The various heights of cut require closer
attention and detail. Greens are cut at such a height the turf susceptible to numerous diseases. So much
of a golf course is aesthetic; the amount of play a golf course receives also affects the health of the
plant. A proper fertility program, a properly managed program is highly critical for the health of the
plant. In the end the golf course is benefitted through added play which in turn turns into revenue.
• Greens / Approach program
• Fall Fungicide program
• Fairways and Rough program
• Weed management program
Staffing & Personnel / Potential
$$$
Proper staffing to maintain the level of maintenance in order to have a successful and productive program. In order to
properly maintain a nine -hole golf course you will need to support the following; Superintendent or someone in a
supervisory role to carry out proper maintenance plan and a preventative equipment maintenance plan. Seasonal
staffing to carry out proper mowing, irrigation and fertility plan. A Mechanic position to help implement and carry out a
proper equipment maintenance plan.
• Golf Superintendent
• 1 seasonal Maintenance Mechanic
• 3 seasonal grounds maintenance personnel
o Tie personnel into parks department for improved coverage on local parks sites
• Trash receptacle monitoring
• Restroom issues
• Visible to the public
Pro -Shop, 'Pro' & Staffing
$$$
Decision: Hiring of Golf Pro to manage golf merchandise, lessons, driving range, events and tournaments, restaurant.
The Pro is essential; he or she is the Face of the golf course. Advertising and merchandise are important. A well run, well
liked pro would be a draw. The golf Pro and the Superintendent work hand in hand with each other to solve problems,
create new ideas and carry out tasks.
• Golf Pro
• Merchandise
• Restaurant
Education
$$$ 1,000
Maintaining current levels of education and keeping up to date with current industry standards is extremely important.
Golf merchandise, lessons and techniques are just as important as a business plan. The superintendent and mechanic
must maintain equipment at levels equal to current standards and safety procedures, maintaining a current applicators
license is essential for fertility program and over all turf health. Maintaining MSDS information and safety procedures.
• Pesticides Recertification courses
• Equipment, turf Show
