Dear Lori,
I am writing you in regards to the Painted Hills “golf course” housing
development.
My biggest concern in the traffic along the Pines schools—Chester
Elementary, Horizon Junior High and University High School. In the
morning and after school there are cars lined up on both sides of Pines
at the Chester Elementary School location. Plus, more cars in the “drive
way” provided for parents on the school grounds.
There is just barely room for cars passing the school in either direction
to drive to 32nd. Then the temporarily parked cars leave the school
area after a child is dropped off or picked up. This causes more
congestion and traffic concerns as the cars pull out of various positions.
I’ve even seen folks do U turns in the area!
Then there are traffic guards trying to help the children cross Pines
Avenue. Occasionally one sees a boy or girl taking a “short cut” running
or walking across Pines Road.
I live in The Greens development. I try to avoid the traffic jam before
and after school because of the congestion.
IF there is a special event or occasion there can be cars lined up along
the road for more than a block in each direction.
Please, please have some more folks come and observe the traffic
congestion before and after school. I understand there was one “traffic
count” line going across the street to count the cars, but it was NOT
done during the busy time when the school kids are leaving the school.
Secondly, the school has NO more room for additional students. What
are you plans for a new grade school, probably a junior high and high
school? You know there is room for all the additional kids?
Does that foolishly come after all your plans are accepted but there is
no room for kids since there are already 300 apartments built along
Pines and an additional 300 along Highway 27.
A second concern for us folks in The Greens is how do we get OUT of
our development through all the traffic on Pines? Both our outlet roads
enter Pines that will be very crowded with the additional development
with 550 new residential homes, apartments, etc.
It’s just crazy to expect the traffic to flow along those three schools!
Then you have high school students driving cars coming and going from
University High School before and after school. They are not the most
responsible drivers trying to exit the parking area.
PLEASE, PLEASE take pictures, have more folks observe the traffic flow
problems along the school. Don’t just count cars, but OBSERVE the
problems before and after school.
Perhaps if all else fails I can persuade the Spokesman to take picture of
the horrific traffic congestion before and after school.
I am a former teacher and am very concerned about the safety of the
students.
Sincerely,
Vivian Zagelow. 509-922-6551
