I am concerned about the extent of development planned for the site. Trucking in that much fill will
indeed make the land more buildable. But Spring runoff is Spring runoff. The same amount of water
must be moved out of the area or absorbed into ground. Where will the water go now? Where will it
flood over onto instead …. the other new development also in that flats area? Will the watershed
area rise in depth since the volume of water is now increased for the remaining area? Work was
done some years ago to improve the watershed area, but I truly doubt that it was done in the
context of the amount of landfill currently planned and the unanticipated diversion of water flow. So
where will the water go? Will we see flooding on Dishman Mica? The railroad track? How much
damage will be caused by this redirected volume of water? How will costs for this secondary damage
be reclaimed?
I am also concerned about the extra vehicular traffic this massive development will bring. And the
extra load on the school systems.
We need some increased retail business development (Hooray for the work being done at
Barney’s!), but this area has already seen a huge amount of housing development. How much can
our aquifer, educational and transportation systems support?
