Lori
We wish to add our voices against approval of the Painted Hills Golf Course Development as
advocated by Mr. Black and Mr. Walker. We built our home on Melissa Drive in 1986. During the
years we have observed development of homes, schools and the former golf course in the area.
Development has created increased traffic and disruption to the area since we built, but all of the
negative effects from growth over the last 32 years pales in comparison to the harmful effects of this
proposed development.
Our concerns are:
1. Traffic. I invite you to drive to points east from our home any weekday morning during the
period of school traffic. It has become almost necessary to access 32nd Ave. by entering
Bowdish at 34th. Traffic from the proposed development will at times of the day overwhelm
current resources.
2. School capacity. When University High School was built additional portable classrooms
were brought in to handle the student numbers. Central Valley School District wrote in
September, 2015 that the three schools in the area will not be able to handle the increased
load from the development. I’m sure the developers are not planning on building new
schools out of their pocket. The taxpayers will have to fund school expansions through
increased property taxes which will affect the affordability of the area.
3. Potential disruption of archaeological resources. Dahp has stated high potential for the
area, increasing costs and delays…how much? How long?
4. 330,000 yards of dirt. 21,400 dump truck loads. Really??? Would you want this happening
in your neighborhood? The dust, the noise…and the damage to the area roads? Once again,
I’m sure the developers are not planning on paying for road repair.
We are not against growth of the Valley, we realize the need for more housing as the area grows…
but this development contains more harm than benefits to the community. We understand the
desire of Misters Black and Walker to show a profit on their purchase of the former golf course
property. As would good businessmen, they are attempting to make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear.
We don’t blame the developers for the attempt, but will blame elected officials if this project is
allowed to proceed.
Thank you for your consideration, we wish you a Happy Thanksgiving!
