________________________________
This is a joint statement from Paul and Alexandra Hyndman, and Marie Lindquist, we live at 12735 E Apache Pass
Rd, Spokane WA 99206
Our concerns regarding the DEIS statement are as follows:
1. The amount of fill dirt required to make this property buildable may require up to 40 trucks a day for 4 years. The
pollution, dust, noise, and destruction this will cause in our neighborhood will be detrimental to our infrastructure
and not to mention our health. This project is projected to last up to 15 years; this could result in lifelong health
issues for a child growing up during this time.
2. The long term environmental impacts of this project have not been properly addressed. Starting with 15 years of
land filling and construction is one thing. Building in an inefficient manner such as this project (high density outside
of the city core) will lead to more cars on the road resulting in increased traffic and idling. We are creating a
transportation nightmare when there doesn’t need to be one. There are no public bus routes on pines or Dishman
mica that would serve this area in a meaningful way, and we will see perpetual inefficiency and increased emissions
output in existing traffic patterns due to a lack of mitigation today and in the DEIS proposal. This proposal fails to
address any reasonable alternative that a city planning committee should be guiding development towards -
sustainable development that lends to efficiency of resources (public roads, clean air and water) rather than
maximization of private wealth.
3. Evacuation routes during a time of emergency have not been addressed. There are only two routes in and out
painted hills where we live. I have a legitimate concern regarding the safe exit from our home in the case of any
emergency. Marie has lived in her home for 60 years in Painted Hills. She recalls the time she needed to evacuate
her home because she could see flames coming over the south side of Painted Hills. Thankfully, she evacuated
safely with her three kids. I have no confidence that we will have the same safe exit should we encounter the same
environmental disaster today and even less so if this project goes through. Adding significant traffic and
construction on Dishman Mica and Madison would mean impeded evacuation and cost lives.
We hope the city of Spokane Valley will thoroughly consider the impact this development will have on everyone
living in this neighborhood. Aside from the environmental concerns, our quality of life will severely be impacted.
People like myself who work in healthcare, and need to be at work on short notice, may have to literally move out of
the area due to the severe traffic implications this development will bring. I sincerely hope the current residents
living here will be regarded above ensuring a developer gets “a return on his investment”.
Sincerely,
The Hyndman’s and The Lindquist’s
