BY SPOKANE VALLEY CITY COUNCIL
The following is the title and summary of Ordinance No. 06-021 passed by the City of Spokane Valley
City Council on the 19th day of September,2006:
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF SPOKANE VALLEY, SPOKANE COUNTY, WASHINGTON,
CREATING AN INDEPENDENT SALARY COMMISSION TO REVIEW AND SET THE SALARIES OF
THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCILMEMBERS; AND PROVIDING FOR OTHER MATTERS
PROPERLY RELATED THERETO.
The ordinance creates an independent salary commission for a period of one year to review and establish
the salaries of the Mayor and Councilmembers. The ordinance explains that the Commission shall consist
of five members who serve without compensation; that the qualifications to serve include being a U.S.
citizen, and a resident of the City of Spokane Valley for at least one year immediately preceding such
appointment. The ordinance further sets out the operation, duties and responsibilities of the commission
members including schedule deadlines. The ordinance explains that the salary schedule is subject to
referendum petition by the people of the City, it explains the process, and states that a petition must be
filed with the City Clerk within thirty days after the official filing date of the salary schedule.
