PiROD has been designing and buiiding guyed tawers, self-supporting towers, and
rilonnpoles since the early 1950"s. During thrs time, we have sold thousands ofstructu{es
rangir,g in height f~rrr as little as 50' high t~ ~xcess of 1400'. These struc#ures uvere
indiv4duaily engineered to accorr-3modate the I~ading requirernents imparted by the design
~ windspeed, ice considerations, antenna laading, and ather factors dictated by the national
code requaremenis existing at the tirre the structure was bu31t.
The present natiorral tower and monopale code, ANSIfEIAll"iA-222-" E" represents ihe
1atest refinernent of specific niinirnum requirements for engirreers and manufacturers to
follow to help assure that t,he structure and its foundations are des`gned to meet the mQSt
real~~t'lo conditions for Iocai weather w•hile assuting that the structure is designed to
stringent factors of safet}.
The „E" version of the code incorporales an escalat'ng wsnc3 factor based on structure
height. "Meefing the code°" 9mpiEes that the des+gn quoted has a9; of th-e code requirements
for safety factors intact at the wincspeed specified. Thus, the ultimate survival speed
would be cons'tderab4y higher. Again, addsng ice ta the design load€ng can alsa add a
further safety factor to the finaa structurP strertgth.

and self-suppor#ing #owers. fn faCt, onjy if a monopole v►rere subjected ta a direct hit from

extremely conservative. Manapoles aro. designed for extreme wind canditions, and e}ren
under these extreme conditions, stringen! factors of safety are requi~ ed. :
