Swim Lesson DescriptionsSpokane Valley Spokane Valley Parks & Recreation Swim Lesson Level Descriptions Lessons are 2 weeks long; Monday - Thursday Parent/Child: Age 1 to 3 year olds. A good opportunity for instruction and fun environment for your child to learn basic water adjustment and orientation skills through blowing bubbles, leg kicks, games, and safety skills. Parent joins child in pool to assist in all facets of instruction. Class Time: 20 minutes Fee: $30 Pee Wee: Age 3 to 5 year olds. Class limited to a maximum of 6 students. Basic water orientation through blowing bubbles, submersion, leg kicks, face and back float, basic strokes, games and safety skills. Class Time: 20 minutes Fee: $30 Super Pee Wee: age 3 to 5 year olds. Designed for young children comfortable in the water. Emphasis on breathing, back floating, kicking, arm strokes, games and safety skills. Class limited to 6 students. Class Time: 20 minutes Fee: $30 Red Cross Levels: Level L• (Introduction to Water Skills). Ages 6 and up. Student learns water entries and exits, water safety rules, basic front crawl, floating, proper kicking, and combined stroke on back. Class Time: 30 minutes Fee: $30 Level II: (Fundamental Aquatics Skills). Prerequisite: Successful completion of Level I skills with ability to swim crawl stroke 25 yards. Students will learn unsupported back and prone glides, front crawl with consistent rhythmic breathing pattern, back crawl, and sidestroke as well as deep -water exploration including treading water, sculling, and water safety skills. Class Time: 30 minutes Fee: $30 Level III: (Stroke Improvement). Prerequisite: Completion of Level II skills with the ability to swim crawl stroke 50 yards and combined stroke on the back 25 yards. Emphasis on improving front crawl, back crawls, butterfly, sidestroke, jumping and diving entries, endurance, and added water safety skills. Class Time: 30 minutes Fee: $30 Level IV: (Stroke improvement). Prerequisite: Completion of Level III with the ability to swim the front crawl 50 yards. Students will be critiqued and emphasis will be placed on previously learned strokes like front crawl, back crawl, butterfly and sidestroke as well as the introduction of breaststroke, and elementary backstroke. Students will continue advanced safety and survival skills. Class Time: 40 minutes Fee: $30 Level V: Prerequisite: Successful completion of Level IV. This level is designed for students to be critiqued and to refine strokes already learned, increase endurance with the introduction of diving progressions, and advanced safety skills. Class Time: 50 minutes Fee: $30 Level VI: (Swimming and Skill Proficiency) Prerequisite: Successful completion of Level V. Designed to critique strokes, refine strokes and build endurance. Introduced strokes like the trudgen, double trudgen, inverted breaststroke, and inverted sidestroke, various turns, personal water safety, and a focus upon swimming to promote lifetime fitness. Class Time: 50 minutes Fee: $30 Swim Team: For swimmers 6 yrs. to 18 yrs. ability to swim the length of the pool on front and back. Practice Time: 60 minutes Fee: $35
