RE: Bridges 4501 and 4507 Expansion Joint/Surface Repair Project

Dear Mr. Iris:
In the past you have tried to repair the expansion joints on bridges 4501 and 4507. The
existing expansion joints consist of steel headers with neoprene seals. The material behind the
steel headers have failed in the past and have caused the steel headers to be exposed to traffic.
You would like to replace the joint seals with a asphalt plug joint and resurface the bridges at the
same time. You have prepared a preliminary set of drawings and specifications for the project.
Scope of Work
You have asked us to assist you with this project. Our scope of work includes the
following items:
• Review the original bridge plans and calculate the anticipated movements at each joint.
Check to see if the asphaltic plug joint is the appropriate type of joint.
• Review the plans and specifications to see if any additions or changes need to be made to
the contract documents.
• Coordinate with the City on any changes to the contract documents.
• Once the contract documents are complete,we will seal the documents.
City Scope of Work
The City will perform the following tasks.
• Provide original plans of the bridges.
• Make changes or additions to the contract documents.
• Conduct bidding.
• Conduct construction administration.
