EXECi111VE SESSION: Mayor Towey called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m It was [hen moved by
Deputy Mayor Schimmels and seconded to adjourn inlo executive sessiott for approximately suty
minules (o evaluate !he qual�catrons oj cmtdidates for appointmen[ to elective o�ce [RCW
41.30. LOQ)(h)], and lhat action is anficipated therea,Jter during the regulor 6:00 p. m. caunci[ meeling.
Prior [o council exi[ing [o executive sessioq Mayor Towey announced [hat he was recusing himself from
[hese proceedings; he explained that for the past hvo years he was wnnected almos[ weekly to one of [he
candidates [hrough many communications; and said he supports a particular candidate for [his fall and has
given financially in his strong support and [herefore feels a perception of assumed faimess is a[ risk, and
said [hat is Ihe basis for his decision.
The vote by acclamation was unanimous in fmor and Council, minus Mayor Towey, adjoumed into
Executive Session at 5:04 p.m. At approximately 5:19 Depury Mayor Schimmels declared wuncil out of
Executive Session and Mayor Towey returned to the dias. It was mwed by Councilmember Gotbmann,
seconded and unanimously agreed to adjoww. The meeting adjoumed at 5:19 p.m.
