Resolution 06-010 Suppoting Application for Community Economic Revitalization Call for Projects • CITY OF SPOKANE VALLEY SPOKANE COUNTY,WASHINGTON RESOLUTION NO. 06-010 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF SPOKANE VALLEY, SPOKANE COUNTY, WASHINGTON, SUPPORTING AN APPLICATION FOR TEE WASHINGTON STATE COMMUNITY ECONOMIC REVITALIZATION BOARD JOB DEVELOPMENT FUND PROGRAM,FISCAL YEAR 2006 CALL FOR PROJECTS,SPOKANE COUNTY PROJECTS. WHEREAS, pursuant to the provisions of the Revised Code of Washington, Section 35A.13, the City Council of the City of Spokane Valley has the care of City property and the management of City funds and business within its incorporated boundaries; and WHEREAS, Spokane County owns and maintains the Spokane Indians Baseball Stadium within the corporate boundaries of the City of Spokane Valley;and WHEREAS, funds may become available from the Washington State Community Economic Revitalization Board's Job Development Program under the 2006 call for projects; and WHEREAS, Spokane County has submitted a project for funding under this program to the Washington State Community Economic Revitalization Board, that will benefit the citizens of Spokane County by repairing and improving the Spokane County Baseball Stadium. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Spokane Valley, Washington, that the City of Spokane Valley strongly supports Spokane County's application for the Spokane County Baseball Stadium Infrastructure Repair Project. Spokane Valley,WA 99206 Y pg p (509)921-1000 • Fax(509)921-1008 • cityhall @spokanevalley.org April 25, 2006 To Whom It May Concern: RE: Support for the Spokane County Baseball Stadium Infrastructure Repair Project Grant Greetings: The Spokane Indians Baseball Stadium was built in 1958 and hosts more than 100 events each year with an attendance of over 200,000, resulting in over$6 million in local economic impact. Significant repairs need to be made to this nearly 50-year old stadium. After an engineering evaluation, it was found that the stadium could be unsafe to occupy within three years. The funding requested is $5 million out of a total of $15 million needed to made the necessary repairs.These repairs will make it possible to continue the use of this regional facility. Stadium operation provides employment of 17 full time and 200 seasonal workers, many of whom are in the 18 to 24 year old age group. Support for this grant comes from the community and business leaders from all over the area. Spokane County held a public hearing to take public testimony and comment on March 21, 2006. At the Spokane Valley Council meeting of April 25, 2006, Council approved a resolution in support of the project. Sincerely, C\ "(-CkA(0.
