RE: Support for the Spokane County Baseball Stadium Infrastructure Repair Project Grant
Greetings:
The Spokane Indians Baseball Stadium was built in 1958 and hosts more than 100 events each year with
an attendance of over 200,000, resulting in over$6 million in local economic impact. Significant repairs
need to be made to this nearly 50-year old stadium. After an engineering evaluation, it was found that the
stadium could be unsafe to occupy within three years.
The funding requested is $5 million out of a total of $15 million needed to made the necessary
repairs. These repairs will make it possible to continue the use of this regional facility. Stadium operation
provides employment of 17 full time and 200 seasonal workers, many of whom are in the 18 to 24 year
old age group. Support for this grant comes from the community and business leaders from all over the
area.
Spokane County held a public hearing to take public testimony and comment on March 21, 2006. At the
Spokane Valley Council meeting of April 25, 2006, Council approved a resolution in support of the
project.
Sincerely,
