2008, 01-15 Leadership RoundtableMemo: Leadership Roundtable From: Ian Robertson (389 -3211, Pastorlan @aol.com) For: Mayor Rich Munson, City of Spokane Valley (Copy to Wendy Van Orman, Mayor of Liberty Lake) Date: January 15, 2008 Leadership Roundtable Definition A group of community leaders representing key organizations meeting together to research, motivate, and mobilize citizens to solve selected societal challenges in the greater Spokane Valley area (i.e. Spokane Valley, Liberty Lake, Millwood, and Spokane County between Spokane and the Idaho border). Organizational Groups 1. Government 5. Faith, NGOs, service clubs 2. Business 6. Health care 3. Education 7. Sports 4. Media & entertainment 8. Retirees Process 1. Have each group select a suggested project. The "panhandling project" is a good example. We recognize that problems of this nature are not the responsibility of any one group, whether government, business, or the faith community. 2. We are looking at challenges that could be solved in a 13 -26 week period, especially those that affect society in general and economic development. 3. Research the challenge and present finding at the roundtable. 4. Group meets eight times a year, each time presenting a new project, in addition to follow through on previous projects. Personnel We have an attorney, Chuck Wilkes, Jr., who has agreed to facilitate the roundtables. Roundtable personnel may change depending on "subject matter experts" that should be part of the conversation. We envision a group of 24 to 32 people comprising the roundtable. Publicity Arrangements will be made to videotape the roundtables, then make them available (a) on community - access TV Channel 14, and (b) on streaming video. TheHUB is available to stage the roundtables, working with local restaurants and /or hotels in providing refreshments.
