Re: Change Order 1 for Sullivan Park Improvement Project,

1. Describe the Change This change order provides for the removal of a 14 inch
diameter Ponderosa Pine tree that was not shown on the project survey. It is located
several feet outside the proposed south edge of the Picnic Shelter Slab near the SW
corner. If the roots remain in the area under the slab, future growth may buckle the slab.
If the roots under the slab area are removed or damaged by construction, the tree may be
damaged, making it susceptible to blowing down during a SW gale onto the new shelter.
2. Evolution of the Change On Monday, September 23, the Contractor staked the
Picnic shelter slab corners and began tree removal activities. The unsurveyed
tree was discovered in the afternoon. On Tuesday morning State Parks gave
verbal permission to remove the tree and the change order was drafted.
3. Payment
The cost was negotiated with the Contractor. The $245 cost for the removal of
one tree was derived by dividing the $2,696 lump siam pace for Bid Item 3, Tree
Removal 4 In. Diam. Or Greater by the 11 ponderosa pine trees to be removed
under the original bid.
4. Time
The change does not impact the critical path and no additional time was granted.
5. Prior Approval
Prior Approval was obtained from Lynn Harmon, Washington State Parks
Commission and the Spokane Valley Public Works Director.
