Sprague Spokane Valley,WA 99206 (509) 720-5000 NOTICE OF ORDINANCE PASSED BY SPOKANE VALLEY CITY COUNCIL The following is the title and summary of Ordinance No. 19-01.9 passed by the Spokane Valley City Council on the 12w'day of November, 2019: AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF SPOKANE VALLEY, SPOKANE COUNTY, WASHINGTON, ADOPTING A NEW CHAPTER 7.50 TO THE SPOKANE VALLEY MUNICIPAL CODE REGARDING REGULATION OF CAMPING ON PUBLIC PROPERTY, AND OTHER MATTERS RELATING THERETO. Section 1 states that the recitals set forth in the ordinance are adopted as Findings for this Ordinance. Section 2 adopts a new chapter 7.50"Regulating Public Camping"and states that the purpose is to prevent harm to the health and safety of the public and to promote the public health, safety and general welfare by keeping public streets, sidewalks,parks, and other public property within the City readily accessible to the public and to prevent use of public property for camping purposes or storage of personal property which interferes with the rights of others to use the areas for the purposes for which they were intended. Other sections of new chapter 7.50 include definitions,what constitutes unlawful camping, regulations regarding storage of personal property in public places, an explanation of unauthorized encampments, penalty for violations, and that except as otherwise provided, enforcement of criminal provisions of this chapter shall be suspended any time there is no space or beds available in regional homeless shelters as noted. Section 3 states that all other provisions of Title 7 SVMC not specifically referenced in the ordinance shall remain in full force and effect.
